I offer the MAMA exhibit for display at colleges, galleries, non-profit organizations and other public spaces (indoors), accompanied by a lecture (power point) titled "Birth as a Creative Process" in which I discuss how I used my experience as both a childbirth nurse and mother as a metaphor and guide to the creative process. I also talk about my passion for protecting women's choice and autonomy in childbirth. The combination of the exhibit and lecture provide a great opportunity for education on childbirth (both social and medical perspectives), art and the innate creative potential of humankind.
"Ms. Zaffis gave a powerful two hour talk entitled "Birth as a Creative Process" at Western Connecticut State University during Women's History Month. Her talk opened up sociology and nursing students alike to a critical and experienced perspective on the "business" of making babies. Students continued to talk about all they learned for months afterward, and I am happy to report that Ms. Zaffis' talk will undoubtedly stay with them forever. Both students and faculty revered the depth of her knowledge and the importance of her message."
